So, how many people really remember Den of Thieves from 2018? Not just saw it but that it’s a movie that existed at all. I barely do, and I saw it in theaters and wrote a review. With a first film that felt like a too-close-for-comfort homage to Michael Mann’s Heat but with a Usual Suspects like twist, it just felt like a lot of those Gerard Butler movies that come out fairly regularly. Then, somehow, all these years later, there’s a sequel.

Secret Level is an interesting project to me. Created by Tim Miller with Dave Wilson, it is an anthology animated series of original short films based on video game properties. Similar in a way to Miller and his Blur Studios’ earlier anthology series Love, Death, and Robots, it’s a series made to push what is acceptable in animation that’s more than general audience fare. Yet it also has to compete with what the films are based on, which is also animation – video games.

Star Wars, the once invincible franchise in the Disney era, hit a downturn in support in the recent years of streaming dominating our entertainment. With people and fans hating the sequel trilogy at this point more than any of the hate I saw lobbed at the Prequels back in the day, along with the destructive wave of bad actors online harassing anyone who wants Star Wars to be more than just Luke, Han, and Leia. It’s not the best time ever to really be a positive and public fan of it.

On Saturday at NYCC, I had the opportunity to try out the upcoming Alien: Rogue Incursion, a new V.R. game set in the Alien franchise. Developed by Servios and published by 20th Century Games, Alien: Rogue Incursion is an immersive action horror game set in the Alien franchise. After meeting T.Q. Jefferson, Alex White, and the rest of the Servios team, the developers had set me up with a Meta Quest connected to a Windows PC and let me try this game out.

Anyone who’s been to New York Comic Con or seen people talk about it over the last few years has heard about the giant Goku balloon balloons or Piccolo statues as they enter the convention show floor. That’s usually just one piece of the grander expanse of Bandai Namco, the entertainment company from Japan that is not only one of the largest video games companies in the world (Tekken series, Elden Ring), but also one of the biggest toy and collectible makers with more licenses than I could list.
