Pitching has been a strength for the Waverly Tigers in the 2025 varsity baseball season, but sometimes the offense hasn’t come. In Wednesday night’s non-league contest with Amanda-Clearcreek, the Tigers were able to grind out a 1-0 victory behind freshman Braylon Spriggs’ complete game shutout. Spriggs allowed five hits and struck out nine in the win. From the dish, he generated the lone RBI to help his own cause, finishing 2-3 with a double and a stolen base.

It’s an event that’s been a long time coming. The inaugural Eastern High School Invitational track and field meet was on the schedule in 2024, but inclement weather prevented it from happening. The weather has been anything but cooperative throughout this spring season as well, but on Wednesday, May 7, the temperatures were pleasant and those who stayed until the end of the meet had the opportunity to witness a dramatic-looking sunset and the first invitational ever at Eastern High School.
