The Pike County News Watchman

The Pike County News Watchman

The origins of The Pike County News Watchman trace back to the early 1800s, possibly around the establishment of Jefferson (now known as Piketon), which became the first government seat of Pike County in 1814. However, details from this early period in Pike County's history are a bit hazy. The first known newspaper in the area was the Waverly Democrat, launched in 1832, which catered to the needs of the early Democratic community in the county, as suggested by its name.

The Eastern Lady Eagles saw their tournament hopes fade away Monday night as the visiting Peebles Lady Indians came from behind to win 6-3 in eight innings. In the Division VI tournament game, Peebles struck first, generating a run in the opening inning. A single, a walk and a single filled the bags. Then an error allowed the run to score. kAm%96 {25J t28=6D 925 9@A6D @7 DEC:<:?8 62C=J H96? 7C6D9>2? y2:5J?

Pitching has been a strength for the Waverly Tigers in the 2025 varsity baseball season, but sometimes the offense hasn’t come. In Wednesday night’s non-league contest with Amanda-Clearcreek, the Tigers were able to grind out a 1-0 victory behind freshman Braylon Spriggs’ complete game shutout. Spriggs allowed five hits and struck out nine in the win. From the dish, he generated the lone RBI to help his own cause, finishing 2-3 with a double and a stolen base.

First you win one. Then you win two. On Tuesday night, the Piketon Redstreaks snapped a four-game skid with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Symmes Valley Vikings. Then on Wednesday night, Piketon got back into Scioto Valley Conference play and won over the hosting Paint Valley Bearcats by a score of 9-3. kAm%96 #65DEC62<D 82:?65 E96 :?:E:2= =625 H:E9 E96 7:CDE CF? @7 E96 82>6 :? It’s an event that’s been a long time coming. The inaugural Eastern High School Invitational track and field meet was on the schedule in 2024, but inclement weather prevented it from happening. The weather has been anything but cooperative throughout this spring season as well, but on Wednesday, May 7, the temperatures were pleasant and those who stayed until the end of the meet had the opportunity to witness a dramatic-looking sunset and the first invitational ever at Eastern High School.
