WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A 19-year-old with Down syndrome just finished up her first year of teaching in a classroom alongside her mom, and “Ms. Madi” was a huge hit. Madi Potts was a volunteer aide in a special education class called academic development at Chapel Park Elementary in the Midway ISD where her mom, Julie, is a paraprofessional. “I tell you what. These kids just flocked to Madi,” Julie said.

ROBINSON, Texas (KWTX) - A Robinson High School junior playing for a softball state championship Friday will step up to the plate with her school’s and Central Texas’ record for the most homeruns in a single season. Lexi Rosillo, 17, broke the Robinson school record of 22 by hitting number 23 in a regional playoff game against Salado on May 15. “Breaking the homerun record means so much to me in so many different ways,” Rosillo said.

CENTRAL TEXAS (KWTX) - A popular band in Central Texas that’s entertained crowds at countless weddings, fundraisers, concerts and parties is turning 30 years old. The Sloppy Joe Band was formed in 1995 with lead singer Brian Brown and while it’s evolved in many ways over the years, one thing that hasn’t changed is its popularity with the crowds. “It sounds corny, but I just love it when people say ‘dang, we had a good time,” Brian said.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The South Waco Community Center has a new mural on the building celebrating Hispanic heritage, and the extremely accomplished Mexican-born artist turned Wacoan behind it says he couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out and what it represents. Jesus Rivera, 52, says he spent more than a thousand hours working just about every day of the week since October to complete the mural facing Speight Avenue this month.
