4. DiscussionIt can be observed from Figure 3 that the swelling pressure does not vary continuously with the decrease in suction. In the high suction zone the swelling pressure exhibits a noticeable variation with suction, whereas in the low suction zone the variation of the swelling pressure with the suction is relatively small. There seems to exist a threshold with regard to suction. When the suction reaches this threshold value, the swelling pressure no longer changes with suction.
