A man wanted for violating his probation was arrested on Tuesday in New London where police allegedly found him with crack cocaine and more than $1,000. John Smith, 44, of New London was arrested around 7:15 p.m. when he was found in the area of Bank Street and Jefferson Avenue, according to the New London Police Department. He was apprehended by members of the department’s Warrant Unit who were conducting field operations.

A Massachusetts man has been accused of sexually assaulting three children in Middletown over the course of about seven years. Derrick Gaither, 59, of West Springfield, Massachusetts was arrested Wednesday and charged with four counts of risk of injury to a minor, three counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and a single count of attempted first-degree sexual assault, according to Erik Costa, chief of the Middletown Police Department.

A teenage inmate at a correctional facility in Cheshire has been charged after state police say he was caught on a recorded phone line allegedly saying he was going to put a hit on the woman he believes helped with an investigation that landed him behind bars. Claymont Arrington, 18, of Hamden was charged on Saturday with tampering with a witness, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening, according to Connecticut State Police.

A man has been sentenced to more than a year in prison after being convicted of causing a fatal head-on crash in North Stonington in 2021. James Pont, 63, of Ashaway, Rhode Island faced sentencing on Wednesday in New London Superior Court where a judge handed down three years in prison, suspended after service of 13 months, and three years of probation, according to the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.
