While it may be a touch late to the free-to-play revolution, the industry-run Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) recently posted a parent’s guide about free-to-play business models. While this is fairly well-trod territory for most MMORPG veterans, it’s a good overview that helps define F2P in the larger video game industry. “Few things are truly free, and that goes for video games, too,” the guide says.

A whole lot of us get stage fright, but sometimes we push through that because there’s a compulsion to be seen, to be heard, and to be heckled. Minimalistway is the boldest of the bold here, standing on a stage for literally the entire world to see! Heckle not, fair reader. This is bravery in its finest. “This is the Desperate Inn, anyone can sing there,” Min said. “This from 9Lives, it’s not an MMO, so does it count? it’s an ex-MMO.”Wait, wasn’t that a cat food too?

As announced at this weekend’s Summer Game Fest, Embark Studios’ sci-fi extraction shooter Arc Raiders is heading our way on October 30th. Nexon is releasing it pretty widely, too, as the title is set to release on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and NVIDIA GeForce Now.

Sometimes it takes more than one run at an MMORPG or online game for it to click with you. There are titles that have taken multiple approaches before they improved and I finally “got it.” I would say that Palia’s one of these games for me. The early access launch of this still-in-beta MMO-lite life sim happened all the way back in August 2023, and I’ve given it a few half-hearted attempts after bouncing off it that first time.

The other day I was doing a little homework reading about an MMO and stumbled upon a chunky section dealing with proper etiquette. And this wasn’t merely “don’t be a jerk and don’t troll general chat” but full of community-made rules how to conduct yourself while dealing with gathering nodes or at certain events. The penalty for breaking these unwritten rules was, the section said in no unclear terms, being shamed and blacklisted.
