PHILADELPHIA >> Tom Shirley wasn’t sure what he was going to do with Emma Kuczynski, but the Jefferson women’s basketball coach knew he needed the guard in his program.
Throughout his career in East Falls, Shirley’s had a knack for finding players he wasn’t even looking for that end up having a winning impact in their careers. Kuczynski’s a testament to that lineage, the senior from Tamaqua (Pa.) off to a stellar start for the unbeaten Rams.

Demetrius Lilley was in the right spot at the right time.
The La Salle junior big man was positioned on the right block as teammate Corey McKeithan collected his own miss, spun around and drove baseline, delivering a pass perfectly into Lilley’s hands. Lilley hesitated, allowing a couple Drexel defenders to leap in anticipation, then calmly banked it up and off the backboard and in.

Jasmine Bascoe is no stranger to high-level competition. A four-year star for King's Christian Collegiate (Ont.) and multi-time medalist for the Canadian national team, the native of the Great White North has made an instant impact on an almost completely rebuilt Villanova.

Emma Boslet’s green hair isn’t an Eagles reference. But she’s willing to say it is.
“I don’t watch football,” she admitted, “[but] I’m going to say yes, because I’m in Philly.”
It’s just the St. Joe’s senior’s favorite color, the reason why she’s sporting a new look this year — fitting, as she’s filling a new role for the Big 5 favorites.
