With three seconds left in the regular season, the Tri-City Storm had just enough time for the perfect ending. Mason Jenson scored the overtime winner just in time, giving the Storm a 3-2 win over the league-leading Lincoln Stars, sending the crowd of 3,166 home happy. Kearney track and field got a pair of home titles on Friday, with boys and the girls teams finishing first in the Kearney High Invite. The girls finished with 179 points, and the boys squad scored 130 points. More than just a successful home meet, the Bearcats set six meet records. Evan Shaffer ran a 49.51 for the 400m dash, and the Kearney boys 4x400 broke with a 3:25:55.

It wasn't the goal the Bearcats drew up, but it was the goal they needed. With time ticking down in the first half of extra time, a Kearney free kick popped high off a Knight defender. After the ball fell, chaos ensued, and a flurry of kicks ended with Aiden Nutter rolling the ball in the goal. Kearney won 2-1 in extra time. "Sometimes you just take the ugly win because that was as ugly of a win as we'd had in a while," Kearney head coach Scott Steinbrook said.
