    M-V-T. Kearney High trainer Brian Haas recently earned national honors, being one of Training & Conditioning magazine’s Most Valuable Athletic Trainers for 2025. Haas was the high school representative of the three chosen, a list that also included US Women’s National Soccer Team trainer Greg Banks, and Central Connecticut State University’s Jessie Fong. “It couldn’t have gone to a better person, or a better trainer,” Kearney High athletic director Ryan Hogue said.

    A football game months in the making will take place Saturday. Preparation for this season’s Nebraska Shrine Bowl began near the top of the year, with coaches reaching out to potential players over text and email, and now with two full squads, the only thing left is to kick off. “It started months ago, getting kids on the phone, text, emails, we got a little Instagram going that supports the Shriners,” South team head coach Chris Nizzi of Boys Town said.

In the morning, the players heard presentations from children’s hospital patients, including the honorary captains for Saturday’s game. After the presentation, the players tried on different prosthetics and attempted to complete different tasks with them.

    Good things come in threes. The Kearney Catholic boys golf team won its third straight Class C title, finishing 17 above par as a team at Jackrabbit Run golf course in Grand Island. The Stars shot a 593, the only team to break 600, and were nine shots clear of second place. "The kids were really focused, they wanted this threepeat, and they worked so hard to get to where they were," Kearney Catholic co-head coach Darrell Dunham said.
