KEARNEY — The Shrine Bowl is always more than a game. On Monday, the teams shared in the powerful experience of the Beyond The Field event, and the Patient-Player Connection. In the morning, the players heard presentations from children’s hospital patients, including the honorary captains for Saturday’s game. After the presentation, the players tried on different prosthetics and attempted to complete different tasks with them.

Good things come in threes. The Kearney Catholic boys golf team won its third straight Class C title, finishing 17 above par as a team at Jackrabbit Run golf course in Grand Island. The Stars shot a 593, the only team to break 600, and were nine shots clear of second place. "The kids were really focused, they wanted this threepeat, and they worked so hard to get to where they were," Kearney Catholic co-head coach Darrell Dunham said.

OMAHA— As Luc Lopez likes to say, last year he showed who he was, and this year he proved it. The Axtell Wildcat senior won his second straight NSAA Class D 800m State Championship, running a new personal best of 1:58.28. Lopez beat his old personal best by a full second, a fitting end to a stellar career. "The only thing that was going through my head is who's got the most grit and who can push the hardest, just pure determination" Lopez said.
