The town of Zebulon held a joint public hearing Monday night to discuss a proposed 511-unit development on 161 acres off of Zebulon Road. Planning Director Matt Lower discussed the proposal’s features to the board, saying that the development provides for more acreage than is necessary, which will ensure extra space for informal recreation and greenspace. “It’s less intense than what standard zoning would allow for on this site,” Lower said.

Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman announced last week that she will not seek reelection at the end of her term next December. Freeman, a Democrat, has served as the county’s top prosecutor since 2014. She won her last general election in 2022 against Republican Jeff Dobson with 62% of the vote. She faced a stiffer test in the 2022 primary election against Damon Chetson. She won that contest with 58% of the vote.

Wake Forest Town Manager Kip Padgett on May 6 proposed a town budget for next fiscal year that would see the town spend a little more than $139 million on municipal services, salaries, and other expenditures. The $139,299,630 budget includes eighteen new town positions. These include a grants program manager, stormwater positions, and salaries for five full-time employees from the Northern Wake Senior Center, which the town will take over later this year.
