Thailand’s Senate voted Tuesday to pass a marriage-equality bill, putting the country on track to become the first in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. The legislation, which passed with 130 senators in favor, four opposed and 18 abstaining, allows any two people, regardless of gender, to get engaged or married. It was approved by the House of Representatives in March and now must be endorsed by the king.

When I was just a kid, I met you and I realized all I had known my whole life was winter. I came here, and for years I sat on top of a hill reading books and it was brighter and warmer and sweeter than anything I’d ever done — and at the time I didn’t even know you were to thank. I thought it was magic. While I think I could write at least 1,100 words in sharing what I love about the District, I’ll try to keep it brief.
