Richard E. “Dick” Zubrod, 87, of Elkhorn, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. He was born on Nov. 23, 1937, to the late Albert F. and Jeanette A. (nee Young) Zubrod. Richard proudly served in the United States Army National Guard, 126 Field Artillery Battalion, 32nd Infantry Division. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic throughout his life, retiring from Racine County. He served in the Burlington Fire Department for 38 years, retiring as assistant chief.

Ellen Johnston, 72, died Friday, May 16, 2025 at home in Wind Lake. She was born in Racine on June 4, 1952, the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes (Zauner) Johnston. Ellen graduated from St Catherine’s High School in 1970. Ellen attended college at UW-Milwaukee where she studied Education and American Sign Language. During college she met Jim Gronowski with whom she had two children, Eli and Kelsey.

Peter M. Leach, 71, of Kansasville, passed away on May 19, 2025, at his home. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on May 30, 2025, at Integrity Celebration Center, 2789 Browns Lake Dr., Burlington. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. until the time of an open mic service at 2:30 p.m. Following the service, Peter will be laid to rest at 3:30 p.m. at Rosewood Cemetery, located on Durand Avenue in Dover. Services have been entrusted to Integrity Funeral Services.

Lucille “Lulu” Kietzer, 104, took the hand of Jesus and went with him to her heavenly home on May 10, 2025. Lulu was born in Chicago on April 28, 1921. She married Guy Magliano on April 24, 1948. Guy died in 1951. Lulu married Edmund Kietzer on May 21, 1967. After marriage, they lived in Elmhurst, Illinois, before moving to Lily Lake. Ed died in 2012.

John Edward Wambach passed away on May 12, 2025, after a brave and inspiring battle with ALS. He was at home, surrounded by the people who he loved most. In true John fashion, he wrote a lot of this obituary himself—his way of getting in one last word and sending a final hug to everyone he held close. John was born on Feb. 20, 1969, to Ron and Irene Wambach. He loved his big, lively family with all his heart.

Jerome W. Hefty Sr., of Burlington, joined his family in heaven on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Jerome was born on June 17, 1943, the 13th of 14 children to Peter and Sophia (Mikula) Hefty. He attended Burlington schools and joined the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam conflict and was stationed in Japan as an aircraft mechanic. He took his skills to a local Burlington auto body repair shop, where he will always be remembered as an honest, dependable, hard working soul for 53 years.

Christine Helen George, 74, of Burlington, passed away peacefully of Alzheimer’s on May 6, 2025, at Vitas Healthcare in West Allis. Christine was born on June 23, 1950, to Edward and Audrey (nee Wilson) Hensel in the same town she would call home for her entire life. She was a graduate of Burlington High School. Christine worked at Lavelle Industries for 24 years, which she enjoyed. Christine’s joy was her family and friends. Her favorite thing was being a Grandma.

Carol J. Schade, 65, of New Munster, passed away on April 26, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. Carol was born on Aug. 19, 1959, to Jeanette E. (nee Weber) and James G. Brown in Burlington, where she was raised. She graduated from Burlington High School and worked at Reineman’s Hardware for many years. Carol married her loving husband, the late Willard Schade, on April 27, 1985. She was an avid NASCAR fan along with her husband and son. She loved to feed and watch the birds.

Cynthia E. Ingwell, 80, of Burlington, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2025. Born in Fort Atkinson on Sept. 13, 1944, she was the daughter of Harold and Mary (nee Jankovich) Gruetzman. Her early life was spent in Fort Atkinson, where she graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and UW Whitewater. On Oct. 14, 1967 at Trinity Lutheran Church, she was united in marriage to Steven J. Ingwell. Following marriage, they made Burlington their home. Steven preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 2014.

Cheryl Ann (nee Voland) Fladwood, of Waterford, was peacefully reunited with her beloved husband of 40 years, Steven Fladwood, on April 25, 2025 at the age of 79 years. Cheryl was the loving mother of Melanie (Jeff) Benavides, Ronald (Barbara), Todd and Joel (Angela) Fladwood. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Adam (Amber), Eric, Austin (Amanda), Jasmyne, Jake, Maya, Paige and Thea; and great-grandmother to Mikai and Raina.
