No! It is not time to retire the term ‘deaths of despair’ [1]. The concept is needed more than ever today in countries where drug-related deaths remain at high levels. It draws attention to the need for comprehensive public health and social policies to reverse the damaging upstream conditions, which form the context for these deaths. And so far, that goal looks like it’s within reach, with the women’s soccer team demonstrating what coach Emma Hayes referred to as a “high-level game,” per USAToday. Of course, the USWNT has another goal too – the same goal as everyone who’s at the Olympics: to medal.

RT @cleoabram: today’s the last day a woman has never been vice president

I didn’t realize how much I needed to hear the president-elect say this. We have a long fight ahead of us—but it starts with good leadership.

We cannot repair the economy, restore our vitality, or relish life’s most precious moments — hugging a grandchild, birthdays, weddings, graduations, all the moments that matter most to us — until we get this virus under control.
