POLK COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Dry air and breezy northwesterly winds will make Wednesday another challenging day for firefighters. While many WNC counties are under a Red Flag Warning from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday, much of the smoke from those fires is expected to move out of the mountains and into the Upstate. On Thursday, the wind is expected to shift from northwesterly to southwesterly, driving some of the wildfire smoke back into WNC.
