HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — More trucks are traveling on a Haywood County road used to transport Hurricane Helene debris to a landfill, but residents say it is increasing the number of accidents, creating an inconvenience, and posing a safety issue. Residents say two tractor-trailers overturned in the same place on Thickety Road in Canton over the weekend. “I was coming home when they were cleaning it out and had the tow trucks on Saturday,” said resident Darian Smathers.
