Everyone has their “movie moment,” that scene in a movie where everything changes. And for Austin and Taryn Durry—the sibling duo and core behind DURRY—their movie took place during the pandemic in their parents’ basement. Locked down in suburbia, they turned to music to pass their time. What came from it was an unexpected moment, one that lit a fuse for their viral single ‘Who’s Laughing Now,’ a song that resonated with an entire generation of anxious twenty and thirty-somethings.

After 26 albums and 15 years, you can’t blame King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard for slipping into something familiar. Yet, that’s not what is happening on Phantom Island. Press Club might not be the flashiest band on the scene. Still, as they mark their return after three years of silence, with their fourth album To All The Ones That I Love, it’s a comforting return to see them do what they do best: heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics with emotionally charged instruments that hits you, not only in the face, but also chest. For nearly fifteen years, Canadian-born Lights Valerie Anne Poxleitner-Bokan (Lights for short) has created music that seamlessly blends indie pop, electronic, and 80s-inspired synths, with glossier production that conveys emotions about holding on too tightly or letting go. Lights has never been afraid to invite us into her world, even with her early work on a more innocent electro-pop album.
