TOLEDO, Ohio — Derek Merrin, who lost by a narrow margin to incumbent Marcy Kaptur in the 2024 election, will run for Ohio's 9th Congressional seat again in 2026. In a release from Merrin's office, the 39-year-old announced his candidacy for the seat. Last year, Merrin lost to Kaptur by fewer than 3,000 votes. Kaptur is the longest-serving woman in the United States House of Representatives. She was elected in 1983.

Wayne Kinsel will run for Ohio's 9th Congressional seat in 2026, currently held by longtime incumbent Marcy Kaptur (D). On June 19, Kinsel filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for the seat. According to the FEC, he is running as a Republican. Kinsel, of Sylvania, is currently the Director of Voodoo Brewery Toledo.
