LOS ANGELES — No matter how good Darcy Kuemper is, sometimes the Vezina finalist just can’t bail the LA Kings out of tough games. In Game 5 of Round 1, after the Kings lost two pivotal games in Edmonton, LA didn’t put up much of a fight in possibly its most important game of the season to this point. Typically a lights-out team at home, the lights just seemed too bright for Jim Hiller’s group.

LOS ANGELES — The Kings held Connor McDavid to zero points on only two shots; Game 2 was all LA. The Kings took down the Edmonton Oilers 6-2 on Wednesday night, continuing to unleash the power play and limit the duo of McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to the best of the Kings’ abilities. They killed off three Oilers power plays, holding the unit scoreless in five opportunities through the first two games.

LOS ANGELES — Up 4-0 in a home playoff game, the Kings were confident. But only one Oilers player could’ve actually made the game interesting. His name is Connor McDavid. Game 1 of the first round embodied the “new season” trope that comes with the transition from the regular season to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. LA turned a new leaf on the power play early on, as Andrei Kuzmenko cashed in on the left post under three minutes into the game. The Kings won 6-5 in the back-and-forth instant classic.

LOS ANGELES — Seemingly countless penalties interrupted the rhythm of the game, but the Kings got revenge on their Southern California rivals, the Anaheim Ducks, who beat LA in their most recent meeting before Thursday. The Kings won 6-1 and scored three power-play goals on six attempts. Five different Kings tallied goals: Quinton Byfield, Anže Kopitar, Kevin Fiala, Alex Laferriere and Jordan Spence. Fiala scored twice, bringing him up to 32 on the season.

LOS ANGELES — Chances were aplenty, but the Kings couldn’t capitalize on almost all of them on Monday night against the Seattle Kraken, who won 2-1. Not having defensemen Joel Edmundson and Drew Doughty in the lineup due to minor wounds was a setback for LA, and the team played the third period without scoring leader Adrian Kempe after he left the game early.
