    As his parents and coaches kept him diving, Castillo’s skills began to shine. Even though he had never dived before, he had spent years at the trampoline park where he practiced his jumps and flips for fun. Over the years, he became so athletic that he could do a backflip while standing. His athletic prowess led him to excel his freshman year, finishing second in the EYL and taking first in the boys 1-meter diving in the 2022 Division II Central Section championships.

    On the men’s side, Tevin Howerton (Las Vegas) continued his strong season, winning both the 100 meters (10.75) and 200 meters (21.46). Chase Dexter (Las Vegas) added a runner-up finish in the 100 (10.76) and a third in the 200 (21.91). Jeremiah West (El Diamante HS) (fourth in 100, fourth in 200) and Jaden Mora (Clovis HS) (fifth in 100, sixth in 200) were right behind. Distance runners also shined as Julian Valdivia (Tulare Western HS) won the 800 meters (1:59.56) and 1,500 meters (4:01.83).

    Of course, Wilson does not let that camaraderie obstruct his competitiveness. After being inspired to join the sport after witnessing Tigers Woods win the 2019 Masters Tournament, Wilson devoted himself over the next few years. Every summer day, regardless of the temperature, he would go to the course at 8 a.m. and golf there until night time. Wilson was first driven to improve his golf game in order to beat his uncle out on the course.
