However, this beautiful city recently bore witness to an attack on a cherished member of the Clemson family.  Ja’Ronn Alex, a Clemson alumnus and current TV reporter for KKCO 11 News in Grand Junction, Colorado, sat down with The Tiger last week to share his near-death experience on Dec. 18, 2024.

    Around the start of the spring semester, downtown Clemson restaurant and bar Itsurweiner bouncers began using alcohol-detecting wands and checking two forms of identification of everyone attempting to enter the bar. Itsurweiner has been experiencing high schoolers seeking entry, according to owner John Agostino, also known to the Clemson community as “Mr. Wein.” To combat this, bouncers are now requiring people to present two forms of identification before they’re allowed in.

    Clemson University is limiting its expenditures to those deemed “mission critical” in response to the construction of new facilities required by its increasing enrollment rate. This expenditure management mode will continue until the end of the fiscal year on June 30 and will be considered when the budget is built for fiscal year 2026. All entities of the University, including colleges, departments, designated student organizations and Clemson Athletics, are impacted by the decision.

    Christopher Mathis McConnell, a 35-year-old man, was imprisoned on Wednesday on a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge in the Oconee County Detention Center. McConnell is from Westminster, South Carolina, and was arrested after an investigation revealed evidence of McConnell committing sexual battery against a teenage student. According to the arrest warrant procured against McConnell, McConnell used “aggravated force” to perform sexual battery against the victim.

    The reflection pond located in front of Clemson University’s R.M. Cooper Library underwent draining and cleaning on Dec. 20 to prepare for construction. The installation of construction fencing was completed on Jan. 6, with fences now surrounding the reflection pond and parking spots near the Watt Family Innovation Center and Cooper Library.
