The first wave of Professional Women’s Hockey League expansion benefited the Pacific Northwest. Seattle’s team is due to debut in time for the PWHL’s third season. It will play home games at CPA and train at Kraken Community Iceplex alongside the NHL’s Seattle Kraken.

The newest franchise, known for now as “PWHL Vancouver,” is the league’s first expansion team. Its reach now extends to the West Coast.

    Berkly Catton is the center of attention in the Kraken prospect pool once again. He captained the Western Hockey League’s Spokane Chiefs to their first Western Conference finals berth since 2019 this week. They’ll face the Portland Winterhawks. The 19-year-old center was drafted eighth overall by the Kraken last summer. Catton had three assists and set up the double-overtime winner as Spokane (45-20-1-2) eliminated the Victoria Royals in Tuesday’s Game 6.
