ASHLAND — Boyd County students and staff stood in the rain Monday in anticipation of ribbon-cuttings for the newly renovated Cannonsburg Elementary School and the newly constructed Boyd County Career and Technical Center. According to Rocky Adkins, senior advisor to Gov. Andy Beshear, funding for both schools was recommended by Beshear and approved by the General Assembly during the previous session.

IRONTON, Ohio — A man convicted of 11 felonies after stabbing the principal of South Point Elementary School was sentenced in Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas on Thursday. Joshua Lee Collins, 44, was found guilty of felonious assault, attempted murder, seven counts of kidnapping, inducing panic, and illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone following a bench trial last month.

HUNTINGTON — A preliminary injunction to protect a Marshall University student from seeing his non-immigrant status terminated again while his case is dealt with was granted in the U.S. District Court of Southern West Virginia on Thursday. The ACLU-WV filed a lawsuit last month on behalf of Shival Nilesh Vyas, 28, a citizen of India who is scheduled to receive his master’s degree in computer science this month.
