    ONA – Nicole Harris and Baylee Smith paced a potent Cabell Midland attack Monday, sparking the Knights to a 10-2, run-rule win over Winfield in high school softball at Paul Adams Field. Harris, who leads off, and Smith, No. 3 in the order, each went 4 for 4 and the Knights finished with 15 hits in just five innings. Hayla Norris added a 3-hit day and also drove in a team-high four runs. “Keep it going until the middle of May,” Knights coach Herman Beckett said.

    HUNTINGTON — Preparation for Ribfest 2025 is underway. The Huntington Ribfest is scheduled for Sept. 4-7 at Harris Riverfront Park in downtown Huntington, the same weekend Marshall football plays Missouri State at home. The Charleston Ribfest is the following weekend, Sept. 11-14 at Ben Morris Field in Marmet. This year’s event will have a “kid’s zone” with 15 to 20 inflatables, carnival rides, a petting zoo and face painting.

    IRONTON — A Proctorville, Ohio, area man was sentenced to eight to 12 years in prison Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. Bryan Montroso, 57, of Township Road 1231, Proctorville, pleaded guilty last month in a drug case and was scheduled to be sentenced April 2 to three years in prison for aggravated possession of meth with the possibility of a judicial release after two years behind bars. Montroso, however, failed to show up for that sentencing and cut off an ankle monitor.

    BARBOURSVILLE — The Eastern Cabell Federated Republican Women’s Club hosted an Easter lunch for veterans at the West Virginia Veterans Home in Barboursville on Thursday as part of the club’s “Caring for America” outreach. Formerly the Barboursville Federated Republican Women’s Club, it decided to change its name to better represent its membership. JoAnn Odum-Aldrich, club president, said they are still a fairly new organization.
