Oban TimesNewsRoyal Navy mine hunter boat Hebe called in to Oban on Saturday. Civic dignitaries were there to greet her and there was a short parade through the town with members of the Royal Navy and the area’s sea cadet unit. Provost of Argyll and Bute, Councillor Douglas Philand, took the salute with Lt Commander Alex Coleman and Councillor William Sinclair, who is the armed forces champion from Dunoon. The boat was then opened to the public to look around the vessel.

What started for 43-year-old Claire Telfer as a trip to the GP with unexplained stomach pains eventually revealed a rare soft-tissue cancer, known as a sarcoma, in her inferior vena cava (IVC), the body’s largest vein that returns deoxygenated blood from the lower body back to the heart. Surgeons at Glasgow Royal Infirmary had planned to operate but the cancer’s position close to her heart and right kidney made it too dangerous for the procedure to go ahead just before last Christmas.

"With Loch Awe’s Long Course back and as ever popular, over 65 people completed it earlier this month. The short, but very hilly, course round Loch Avich attracted over 45 riders. All really enjoyed the event and the cafe atmosphere in the finish area was very popular. "The legendary soup and baking at the finish zone was provided by Cromka Bake and Dine.
