KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — A sheriff in central Florida was arrested Thursday on charges of racketeering and conspiracy as part of what state authorities described as a probe into a massive gambling operation. Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez was arrested on second-degree felonies and taken to the jail in nearby Lake County, Florida. Osceola County is south of Orlando, and part of the county is home to Walt Disney World.

CORAL SPRINGS, FLA. (WSVN) - A Coral Springs man has been sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for running a $158 million Ponzi scheme through his over-the-road trucking company, Royal Bengal Logistics, Inc., federal prosecutors announced. Sanjay Singh, 45, was convicted in November on eight counts, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud and engaging in unlawful financial transactions.

JUNO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — An adolescent loggerhead sea turtle named Dilly Dally crawled into the Atlantic Ocean Wednesday morning, months after having a front flipper amputated at a Florida turtle hospital. The turtle was brought to Loggerhead Marinelife Center in January suffering from predator wounds to the front flipper. The veterinary crew at the Juno Beach facility assisted in Dilly Dally’s rehabilitation and care.

(CNN) — The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert for some raw ground beef products sold at Whole Foods Market because of a risk of E. colicontamination. The products are 1-pound, vacuum-packed packages of Organic Rancher organic 85% lean and 15% fat ground beef with use- or freeze-by dates of June 19 or June 20. They came from Vermont-based NPC Processing and have an establishment number Est. 4027 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

MIAMI (AP) — Two South Florida shark divers convicted of theft for freeing 19 sharks and a giant grouper from a fisherman’s longline several miles from shore have been pardoned by President Donald Trump. Pardons for Tanner Mansell and John Moore Jr. were signed Wednesday. They had been convicted in 2022 of theft of property within special maritime jurisdiction.
