TAMPA, Fla. — High-ranking generals and even a princess from the royal family from Denmark are turning out for a fundraiser on Veterans Day in Tampa. The Veteran Coalition International and the Special Operations Warrior Golf Foundation are hosting a golf tournament at Hunter’s Green Country Club on Nov. 11. Later that evening, a fundraising gala featuring retired Air Force General Tony Thomas (former SOCOM Commander) as the keynote speaker will also be held at Hunter’s Green.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Sometimes disaster relief means neighbors helping neighbors, and sometimes it's strangers that offer a helping hand. That’s what’s going on in the Riviera Bay neighborhood of St. Petersburg. Late Monday night, four men from Oklahoma rolled in with a flatbed hauling a skid steer to help clear debris and also a trailer filled with supplies. The men work for LS Transport near Oklahoma City.

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. — Many people who visit the Family Recreation Complex in Temple Terrace are there to pump up some muscles, but each weekday another group arrives that’s pumped up to serve. “There you go, have a good day!” said 19-year-old Nicholas Alston, while handing a receipt to a customer. Alston and other students from a nearby school-run Focus Café. It’s a place to find snacks of all sorts and service with a smile. Focus Café workers are from Focus Academy.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — At The Tides restaurant in Safety Harbor, customers often open wide for oysters: “Yeah, they’re just tasty!” said Luceli Castanon, sitting at a corner table with two friends. “Oh my gosh, they’ so good for you,” Amy Solak said. “They have all the zinc and iron that you need. They’re delicious.” But after the slippery slurping is over, what happens to the shells? Where do they go? “The trash,” Castanon ventures.

However, there’s a dark side to this popularity, because along with the good visitors, also come some bad. According to the group Selah Freedom, Florida ranks third in the United States for sex trafficking. “When there’s tourism, there’s a higher incidence of sex trafficking,” said Stacey Efaw, Selah Freedom’s Executive Director.
