When I was eleven, my best friend had a sewing birthday party. Each guest was guided through the process of using a sewing and embroidery machine to make a personalized bag, which doubled as a party favor. I had previously dabbled in a few hand-sewing and embroidery projects, but that party was the first time I had used a sewing machine—and I fell in love. I took lessons for several years and even received my own sewing machine for my fourteenth birthday.

Whenever I am not sure what to give one of my siblings for a birthday or Christmas, a new game is my fallback. Some of my favorite holiday memories involve playing those new games with my siblings the day after the holiday, when no one has to look at the clock.
