    One of my proudest moments as a parent was when I realized that I had successfully convinced my kid that books prominently featuring dragons are, objectively, extremely cool and good. Now, she’s only 7, and there’s plenty of time for her to decide that mom is a massive nerd and that her adolescent rebellion will be getting really into tennis or something. And fair enough! She’s got to walk her own path.

    Through the ages, some tales have spread their seeds like trees, creating forests of imagination. Fairy tales often have that quality. But I doubt that Carlo Collodi, the author of the 1883 novel Pinocchio, would like his story to be called a fairy tale.

    Meine Kinderbuchfigur Lola entdeckte einmal das Wort Noteingang und dachte Folgendes: "Notausgang, dieses Wort kannte ich natürlich. Das steht ja in allen möglichen Gebäuden, wo sich Menschen versammeln, und meistens gibt es dafür auch ein Zeichen, diese kleine grüne Person, die einem Pfeil hinterherläuft. Ein Notausgang zeigt, wo man rauslaufen soll, wenn man in Not ist. Ein Noteingang dagegen würde zeigen, wo man hineinlaufen könnte, wenn man keinen Platz mehr hätte, an dem man sicher wäre.
