HR departments in the U.S. received passing grades for their overall 2021 workplace performance—mostly B's and C's. Google employees whose work does not require them to be in the office can continue to work from home for nearly 12 more months, the search-engine giant announced Monday. Most Google employees began telecommuting when the coronavirus pandemic began early in 2020 and had planned to continue doing so through the end of 2020. Google has reopened 42 of its offices around the world.

Entry-level employees today are less prepared for the workforce than their counterparts five years ago, according to a recent survey by General Assembly, a for-profit education company based in New York City that focuses on technology skills. A shortage of soft skills topped the list of inadequacies employers have observed in entry-level candidates. The findings are based on two surveys conducted in the U.S. and U.K. in October 2024.
