Welcome to the first weekend of Summer! We're celebrating the solstice with cooler temperatures and some continued gusty winds-especially in the mountain passes and foothill communities. We've already seen winds 25-35 around the valley floor with stranger gusts 40-50mph in the San Gorgonio Pass. A Wind Advisory continues to remain in effect for this area, including Banning, Cabazon and Desert Hot Springs through 11pm tonight.

Happy Friday! We welcome the start of Summer solstice later this evening at 7:42pm PDT. We remain very warm this afternoon--but temperatures will be a few degrees cooler, with a more noticeable drop in temps this weekend. I'm watching hot, dry and gusty conditions this afternoon through Saturday night. Gusty westerly winds will increase later today and linger through Saturday, especially in the afternoons and evenings, we could see gusts as high as 40-50mph.

Increasing heat across the Coachella Valley and Palm Springs as temperatures continue 5-10 degrees above average through the week. Saturday will feel noticeably warmer, with highs 3 to 5 degrees above this afternoon. High pressure building in from the south will help daytime highs climb even higher this weekend, peaking on Sunday when most desert areas have a strong chance of hitting or exceeding 110°F. While it doesn't look like we'll break records, Palm Springs will likely hit 114 degrees.

Temperatures across the Coachella Valley will climb through the weekend and into next week with the hottest days expected on Monday and Tuesday. Highs will likely reach 108-110 degrees, making it the hottest stretch so far this season. This heatwave is courtesy of a strong upper-level ridge stretching from the Pacific Northwest through Arizona, keeping our weather pattern hot and dry.

This afternoon will bring occasional breezy winds, while temperatures remain steady in the low 100s. I'm seeing a few cumulus clouds developing over the mountains and high desert, and there is a very slight chance of thunderstorms for the San Bernadino Mountains and High Desert, but the Coachella Valley looks nice and sunny. As we head into the weekend, a departing low-pressure system will allow a ridge of high pressure to begin building up from the south.

It's the *gasp* for me guys 😂😂😂 https://t.co/0SzaXMvuce

S'cuse me. Pardon me. Coming through!! That ridge of high pressure is shoving our closed upper low (that's been moving at a snail's pace) to the east. That = more sunshine & warmer temps late week and early next week. @KESQPatrick has your forecast at Noon on @KESQ https://t.co/f4YnPbBCTY
