Monterey Bay’s characteristic morning mist cleared just in time for some of the world’s top cyclists to find their places on the famous Laguna Seca Raceway in Salinas Thursday. It was the start of the 2025 Sea Otter Classic. And this was the first time the Men’s and Women’s Elite races happened on a gravel course. The race marked the first of six nationwide Life Time Grand Prix events that will dole out a total of $380,000 in prize money this year.

Life lately has been a little… well… boring. In the best way possible, though. It’s been easy evenings after work with low key dinners, backyard sitting, March Madness (RIP my bracket), early bedtimes with the windows open. I keep making Michael drive me around places on the weekends since he turns 16 in June and we are trying to log as many practice miles as we can. This weekend, he drove me and Gracie to the mall where we all three shopped around for a dress for my mom’s wedding this weekend.

Gracie turned 14 last week. Crazy, right?! How in the world has time gone so fast? I feel like I blinked, and she went from a fussy, clingy baby to a fussy, clingy teenager…. KIDDING! Last week was spring break for my kids’ school district and UCF. It was my first spring break at the university and, turns out, no one works that week! It was so quiet all week long. I ended up taking Thursday and Friday off so that I could hang with my kids a little. Thursday, we hung around running errands and just goofing around. Then Thursday afternoon, my sister texted me and said, “Come see me!” And it took about 2.4 seconds for me to say, “OKAY!” This post is for paid subscribers

Earlier this week, I got an unexpected phone call from someone I hadn’t talked to in a long time. The person was calling to apologize for how they handled a situation that involved me almost a year ago. They said they’d wanted to call for quite a while, but they hadn’t known what to say. It was a really kind phone call. I admired their ability to humble themselves voluntarily like that, and to have the desire to make something right that no one was asking them to fix.
