    A furious driver has hit out at a parking firm after he was wrongly slapped with a £170 fine and then spent months trying to pay it. Declan Hill, 57, from Grantham, Lancashire, was given the hefty penalty notice at Grantham Railway Station following a mishap with the NCP app on May 21. The teacher, who describes himself as a "good citizen", says he was running late for a train to Brighton to visit his relatives when he attempted to pay on his phone.

    A care home is holding a Christmas fair this weekend. Richard House Care Home, in Gorse Road, will be holding the fair on Saturday (December 9) from 2pm until 4pm. Anita Asken, activities coordinator at the care home, said: “All are welcome. Anita Asken, activities coordinator at Richard House Care Home. “Come and join us for the fun and festivities and meet Santa in his grotto. “You never know who else you might see while you are here.”

    The Grantham Art Club recently held a competition. Members of the group were “set to the challenge” when they were asked to paint a landscape or seascape that was “different from usual”. Local artist Dennis Hobbs was invited to judge the pictures and comment on them. In first place was Philip Steer, in second was Lynn Carr and in third was Liz Steer. The Grantham Art Club meets on Monday mornings in the community room in Manners Street.

    An annual carol event returns next weekend. ‘Carols at the Bandstand’ returns to Dysart Park next Sunday (December 10). This year, the event will start at St Anne’ Church, Harrowby Road, at 2pm and then move onto Dysart Park at 3pm. A spokesperson for the event said: “Join us this Christmas for a ‘walking nativity’. “Come out and celebrate! Cheer on local schools leading our procession as Joseph and Mary.
