A Wellington gym where former senior government press secretary Michael Forbes took closely zoomed in photos of women working out has used its newsletter to restate the rules on filming ‒ without directly addressing the alleged privacy breach. Following a Stuff investigation, Forbes was found to have allegedly audio-recorded paid-for sessions with Wellington sex workers without their knowledge or consent in July 2024.

Loafers Lodge resident describes fleeing firePolice have laid a fresh wave of charges against three people more than two years on from a fatal fire at Loafers Lodge hostel. Early in the morning of May 16, 2023, a blaze ripped through the 92-room short-term accommodation in central Wellington. Five residents died in the blaze: Michael Wahrlich, 67, known around the city as Mike the Juggler, Melvin Parun, 68, Kenneth Barnard, 67, Peter O’Sullivan, 64, and Liam Hockings, 50.
