A brand-new comedy series filmed entirely in Nova Scotia is set to premiere this month — and it’s already making history. “0-60 Driving Academy” is being recognized as the first-ever Black family sitcom to come out of Atlantic Canada. It is inspired by the real-life experiences of Dartmouth’s Steve Lawrence – a driving instructor and musician who also co-created and stars in the show. “We didn’t set out to make history,” said Lawrence in an interview with CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly.

A Nova Scotia musician is earning national attention as a finalist in a major country music competition. Mac Rumbolt, a singer-songwriter from Hantsport, N.S., is one of four finalists in Country Rising, a nationwide search for Canada’s next country star. Rumbolt’s music is known for its raw, honest and heartfelt songwriting — qualities that stem from a life-changing experience at the age of 18, when he lost his leg in an accident. He credits music with helping him heal and move forward.
