Yesterday in New York, L’Atelier Sonore opened at Valentino’s boutique on Madison Avenue in New York. For the all-day opening event, the Italian fashion house launched a special listening room, designed by Terraforma. Starting at 2pm and going until midnight, artists like Laraaji, Lea Bertucci, Laurel Halo, Lizzi Bougatsos, Chuquimamani-Condori, Kevin Beasley, Veronica Vasicka, Physical Therapy, played personally curated vinyl sets, straight through until midnight.

This year’s Met Gala honored the artistry of dandyism and black tailoring in a celebration of culture, resistance, and identity. Fashion, in this sense, becomes more than a source of self-perception; it becomes historic preservation, where legacy blends with the contemporary. At The Mark Hotel, I created an analogue documentary of the scenes behind the scenes, where elegance and vulnerability coexist.

“Jack Whitten: The Messenger” is on view at The Museum of Modern Art through August 2. From the late New York-based artist’s studio—a former firehouse, which he described as a “laboratory for acrylic paint,” largely untouched since his death in 2018—his daughter and wife joined MoMA for a conversation. Here, they explained how the collection of images and objects he lived with reflected who he was, and how it relates to upbringing in the segregated South during the Civil Rights movement.
