German regulators called on Google and Apple to remove DeepSeek from their app stores, due to growing concerns around the Chinese AI company’s data protection practices. The country’s data protection commissioner Meike Kamp issued a statement outlining her request, claiming DeepSeek was illegally transferring German users’ personal data to China. Germany follows other countries in taking aim at DeepSeek, after the AI startup made waves in the industry at the start of 2025.

Apple made amendments to it App Store policies in a bid to comply with the European Union’s (EU) Digital Markets Act (DMA), as it looks to avoid more fines on top of a $500 million penalty earlier this year. Following two months of negotiations, the iPhone maker announced measures yesterday (26 June), proposing new fee structures to make it cheaper and easier for developers to direct customers away from the Apple App Store to make payments.

AST SpaceMobile claimed a first in demonstrating Non-Terrestrial-Network (NTN) tactical satellite communications capabilities across key-defence related use cases, in collaboration with privately-held Fairwinds Technologies. AST SpaceMobile stated field test use cases included real-time connectivity to a Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) over a VPN, multimedia streaming via TAK and secure multi-party video calls, all completed on standard, unmodified smartphones.

US lawmakers introduced a bill which proposes a ban on US government agencies using Chinese AI models, taking aim at companies like DeepSeek. The “No Adversarial AI Act” was introduced to the House of Representatives by two members of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. It proposes the creation of a permanent framework for barring the use of all Chinese models from US executive agencies, in addition to those from Russia, Iran and North Korea.
