Telia continued to track progress in a long-term technology project with public transport operator Ostgotatrafiken, deploying the first contactless payment system on a Swedish rail network using smart watches and cards. The operator deployed the system in the Ostergotland region of Sweden, working on it with Ridango, a provider of account-based ticketing, fleet management and real-time passenger information systems.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) proposed charging satellite communication providers 4 per cent of their adjusted gross revenue (AGR) as a spectrum usage fee and a five-year licensing period. A minimum annual fee of INR3,500 (about $41) per megahertz will be levied on both geostationary and non-geostationary satellite operators, which applies if the 4 per cent AGR fee is lower.

The head of Telstra InfraCo Brendon Riley will step down on 30 September, revealing plans to retire, and will be replaced by Microsoft MD for Australia and New Zealand Steven Worrall (pictured). Telstra CEO Vicki Brady explained Worrall’s approach to partnerships, coupled with his experience leading technology and software businesses, “are great fits for our ambitions for Telstra InfraCo”. Worrall has led Microsoft’s operations in the region since 2017, managing a team of more than 3,000 people.
