    This summer, all prospective beach days and lunch dates were cancelled once I tested positive for COVID-19. With my family overseas for their holiday, I was left to fend for myself in the toughest three weeks of my life. I spent every minute in immense discomfort, wishing I could sleep for more than twenty minutes at a time without waking up with violent coughs and a growing headache.

    Cumberland Council, which spans from Lidcombe westwards through Merrylands until Pemulwuy, passed a motion in February to ban drag storytime events. A subsequent motion was passed in early May banning books about LGBTQ+ parents from all council libraries. At the following council meeting, hundreds of protestors gathered outside the Cumberland Council chambers, one half opposing the ban and the other supporting it.

Lately, I have implemented a new routine that instills within me a sense of accomplishment. Following a routine and taking time to prioritize my work and overall well-being, I have begun reflecting upon the way that I view situations and things that contribute to stress and anxiety. My perspective is limited to a set way of thinking and idealizing. But why?

    Do you ever get the idealization of the “What Could Have Been” or “What Could Be” that keeps you holding on to a relationship of any kind? What about the fact that you know that this is not the entirety of what someone is capable of and you know deep down that they can do better because they are better? The acknowledgment that you have come so far in building a bond with someone that you have convinced yourself is your time and effort and energy time and time again.

    Lately, I’ve been having the feeling that I’m not doing good enough. I find myself wishing there were just a few more hours in the day, every day. Just so that I could begin to feel as though I’ve spent an adequate amount of time working on my schoolwork and doing course readings, being involved on campus, creative writing, finding time to eat and   remembering that humans need water to survive.
