    MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A 16-year-old involved in a police chase and a fiery crash that killed three people will be tried as an adult. FOX13 first reported Wednesday that 16-year-old Erian Watkins was in adult custody. Thursday, the Shelby County District Attorney's office confirmed there was a detention hearing where prosecutors argued for a bond higher than $30,000. However, a judge kept that amount. Watkins bonded out of jail. For the family of the three women killed, that bond was not enough.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The state takeover of the Memphis-Shelby County School district is on pause. Tuesday, state legislators passed different bills on the measure through the House and Senate, but no compromise could be made. Instead, sponsors Rep. Mark White (R-Memphis) and Sen. Brent Taylor (R-Shelby County) say they chose to leave the bills on the desk until the Tennessee Comptroller's audit into the MSCS board is complete. Shelby County Commissioners reacted to the news Wednesday.

But last weekend, a teen was shot and killed Sunday steps away from a festival in Tom Lee Park. It's a shooting that has organizers and people attending these events being mindful of their surroundings and security measures. "I actually feel incredibly comfortable," said Jazemon Adams, who attended the Africa in April Festival with his two daughters.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis-Shelby County Schools are one step closer to being under state control. Thursday, a bill to create that control passed through another House committee, but not until a flurry of questions from state representatives. Currently, there are still different opinions on what the control would look like. Rep. Mark White (R-Memphis) is asking for an oversight board and Sen. Brent Taylor (R-Memphis) wants a 'series of interventions.'Taylor told FOX13 a compromise is on the way.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Attorneys for a man accused of shooting a co-worker at the FedEx World Hub are asking to get his charges thrown out. The reason? A grand jury has yet to indict him. Tyreese Earnest was arrested for the shooting in the parking lot of the FedEx World Hub in November 2024. But, as of April 16, the grand jury still had not formally brought charges against him.
