The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center will be home to the first of its kind targeted particle therapy treatment in the state. Proton therapy will offer patients new hope, with construction starting the end of this month on a $36 million project at Nebraska Medical Center.  Proton therapy provides significant benefits to certain patients. The system focuses an extremely targeted dose of radiation for the treatment of tumors, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues and reducing side effects.

Frank Downing Sr., an Ashton Grove Senior Living resident, learned in October he has been living next to an ancestral homestead through an Old Friends purchase of land right next door.  Downing, who retired in Owen County after a career developing electric infrastructure across the state, moved to Scott County by chance, he said. He settled at Ashton Grove upon a recommendation from his three children after his wife had passed away.
