A tribunal has ruled that residents of a Preston apartment building facing eviction due to renovations can remain, citing a lack of evidence showing evictions were necessary for the work to proceed. The Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) denied 10 eviction orders at 94 Beck St. in Preston. The decision, dated April 22, 2025, stated the landlord had not established evidence — such as permits — demonstrating the need for residents to vacate their units while renovations take place.

The City of Cambridge has taken the next steps to expanding its boundary by annexing three parcels of land it borders with the Township of North Dumfries. At its Tuesday evening meeting, council endorsed a restructuring proposal for a boundary adjustment with the neighbouring township that will be forwarded to the Region of Waterloo and Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for approval.

Any changes to Cambridge’s fireworks bylaw will come at a later date. A staff recommendation to ban the sale of fireworks in the city starting in 2026, reduce the number of hours fireworks can be set off, and increase the fines to $1,000 for violating city rules around fireworks was deferred by council at its Tuesday evening meeting until after the noise bylaw is considered later this summer.

If it’s done right, the audience won’t even notice the roughly 100 people involved in bringing a show like Jesus Christ Superstar to the stage at Drayton Entertainment, as the theatre company approaches a busy summer season.
