It was nearly two years ago North Dumfries resident Curt Martin began voicing his concerns about the excessive speeding and noise along the stretch of Highway 24 between Footbridge Road and McQueen Shaver Boulevard south of Cambridge. Finally, it appears Martin's voice is being heard as the Township of North Dumfries decided at a council meeting earlier this month to form an ad hoc committee to help look into the issues.

Regional council will decide next week how to fill the council seat left vacant by the recent death of Kari Williams. The Kitchener councillor died in April following a multi-year battle with cancer. Next week staff will recommend the region declare the council seat vacant in accordance with the Municipal Act and will ask council to initiate one of a number of options to fill the vacant seat.

The city wants to move ahead with a three-year-old plan to save an old stone tower on the Forbes Estate by relocating it to use as an observation deck in Jacob's Landing park. The 150-year-old structure is part of the Forbes Estate at 155 Guelph Ave. where a Fusion Homes subdivision is under construction.
