There are many mystical experiences you’ll encounter as a parent, but one of the greatest is sharing the things you love with your children, and watching them fall in love with them, too. Parents who play golf feel this viscerally, because if you see your child fall in love with the game, you know you’re witnessing the beginning of something that you’ll be able to do together for decades. Not every parent-child relationship has that; it’s a lucky thing.

Nelly Korda has categorized her relationship with the U.S. Women’s Open as "complicated." She believes she’s more emotional about this major because the first time she played in it she was 14. She’s seen it break her heart, like in 2024 when she won a mystifying six of the seven events leading up to it, opened with an 80, and missed the cut. She’s said it's the major she most wants to win. When it was all over at Erin Hills, Korda was close, but still wasn’t going home with the trophy.

Charley Hull was paired with Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda during the first and second rounds at the U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills. Photos and videos started circulating on social media, where it appeared Hull was losing her patience with the pace of play. Kiara Romero had no idea she was making history. She was just freewheeling it at Erin Hills on Sunday at the U.S. Women’s Open. After a brutal Saturday where she shot 84, Romero found herself at the bottom of the leaderboard. Instead of feeling defeated, Romero saw it as an opportunity. “I think just knowing that I was literally in dead last kind of freed me up into knowing I had absolutely nothing to lose and just playing my game,” Romero said after the round.

While playing in China at the Blue Bay LPGA in March, Julia Lopez Ramirez felt pain in her stomach. She thought it was food poisoning. She kept playing, ended up missing the cut, and flew home. The pain continued, so she went to a doctor. “I thought it was like food and I just wasn't feeling good, and I end up going to the doctor, got scans, and end up having surgery in the same day,” Lopez Ramirez said in April. After the surgery, she lost weight.

Atthaya Thitikul joins Tiger and Lydia Ko as the youngest players ever to reach No. 1. When I did this piece with her, her restraint stuck out. She's young, but makes mature decisions with the long-term in mind. Oh and she really knows how to win. https://t.co/YG5rrL14Wm
