GANANOQUE – A contentious chapter in Gananoque’s infrastructure history came to a close Tuesday night as town council voted 4-3 in favour of removing the King Street Pedestrian Bridge. The decision authorizes the town to enter into an agreement with Strong Bros. General Contracting Ltd., awarding a contract worth up to $488,900 (excluding HST) for the demolition of the bridge, which has been closed to the public since mid-2022 due to safety concerns.

A private school in Gananoque has cleared a major hurdle, as council approved a revised development permit on Tuesday, paving the way for expanded child care and early education services at 250 Wilson Drive. The decision allows for the construction of a 1,723-square-foot accessory building on the property to accommodate a private school for up to 30 children, subject to several conditions, including compliance with the Ontario Building Code and Ministry of Education requirements.

SEELEY’S BAY — Despite grey skies and a steady drizzle, the mood was nothing but bright on Saturday afternoon as the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands officially opened the doors to its brand-new Fire Station 2. Located at 3306 County Road 32, the 725-square-metre (7,808-square-foot) facility replaces the original Seeley’s Bay fire hall, which had served the community since 1951.

The grand opening of the new Fire Station 2, located at 3306 County Road 32 in Seeley’s Bay, will run from 1 p.m. to approximately 3 p.m. Residents are invited to attend, explore the station, and speak with Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands officials and emergency services personnel.
