    June 18, 2025, Lethbridge, Alta. – A police oversight board says it has dismissed a complaint that a southern Alberta police chief allegedly broke public health restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. It comes after a former deputy chief with the Lethbridge Police Service had claimed Chief Shahin Mehdizadeh violated a public health order by taking a chaplain out for lunch in March 2021. A disciplinary hearing by the Lethbridge Police Commission concluded Monday and dismissed the allegations.

    June 18, 2025, St. Albert, Alta. – The City of St. Albert is providing its employees with hands-on tools to support their health and well-being, and recently began collaborating with TELUS Health to introduce the Espri by TELUS Health app to its Emergency Services personnel. Espri by TELUS Health is a mobile app that provides first responders, dispatchers and municipal employees within policing and fire services with direct access to targeted mental health resources.

    June 18, 2025, Montreal, Que. – Montreal police are reporting a slight increase in the number of crimes in the city last year, driven in part by a rise in assaults. The overall number of offences increased 3.4 per cent compared to 2023. The police service also says more hate crimes are being reported, especially those based on ethnicity, national origin or skin colour.

    June 17, 2025, Prince George, B.C. – A provincial court judge has ruled that the guilty verdict stands for an RCMP officer convicted of obstruction of justice in the case of an Indigenous man who died in police custody in 2017, clearing the way for sentencing. A statement from the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association says Judge Adrian Brooks dismissed the attempt by RCMP Const. Arthur Dalman to have the proceedings stayed, rejecting Dalman’s claim that his Charter rights were breached.
