The brother of a woman brutally murdered by her violent partner says he'll never get over the fact that her four year old son heard her screams for help as she was stabbed to death. This week marked the fourth anniversary of Jennie Poole's killing at the hands of evil Gavin Murphy. Jennie's brother Jason – who is campaigning to have a register of domestic abusers set up so people can know the background to potential partners – said his family can never get over the horrific nature of her death.

A Carlow woman has received a lifetime ban from owning dogs after she admitted to eight charges under sections of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013. Judge Geraldine Carthy imposed the ban on Seeta O’Neill, of Maple Court, Phelimstown, Tullow, Co Carlow, at Carlow District Court on April 3rd. The court heard evidence from ISPCA senior inspector Fiona Conlon, who said she visited the defendant’s property on February 29th 2024, following a report made by a concerned member of the public.

Hundreds of households that suffered damage in Storm Éowyn have been rejected for help from the Government’s Humanitarian Assistance Scheme, a TD claims. Aontú deputy Paul Lawless says he has been inundated with emails from his constituents in Mayo who have been turned down for the scheme. He has accused the Government of “changing the goalposts” when it comes to eligibility for it.

Mikey Graham has revealed that the death of his mother and his divorce have prompted him to regain his “spiritual liberation”. The former Boyzone singer, 52, said he was “humbled” by the reaction of fans to the recent TV documentary on the band and said he had only “honesty” to bring to it. Graham’s beloved mother Sheila passed away following a brain haemorrhage in 2017 and he revealed last year that he had split from wife Karen Corradi after 20 years of marriage.

The Government has been urged to immediately publish its new national sexual health strategy amidst the rise of STIs in Ireland. Latest figures show there was a 15% increase in HIV and syphilis cases across the country last year.
