Hurricanes baseball coach Andy Pitsilos calls senior pitcher Mikey Mariano, Jr., a magician. “He’s not overpowering, but he can overpower you with his off-speed pitches, if that makes sense,” Pitsilos said. “He keeps you off-balance all the time and gets you off stride.”And, he usually gets you out.

Parkland’s Chase Brunner was hit by a pitch with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning of Monday night’s Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game against Allentown Central Catholic, but wasn’t allowed to advance to first base. “The umpire said I stuck my elbow out and into the strike zone,” Brunner said. “I could see how that happened. I rolled my back and my elbow came out. But it wasn’t on purpose. I didn’t want to take the bat out of my minds.

Eric Luckenbill remembers when Emmaus boys basketball was routinely competing for league and district titles. He would like to see the Green Hornets regain a place of prominence in local hoops. Luckenbill was approved as the new Emmaus coach at the East Penn School District board meeting on Monday night. He will replace Jerald Brown who resigned after one season in which the Green Hornets went 5-17 overall, 5-11 EPC.
