    VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — St. Aloysius High School has named Carson Smith and Samantha Edwards as the 2024 Male and Female Athletes of the Year. The honors were announced Wednesday night at the school’s annual athletic banquet. Smith, a multi-sport standout, excelled in football and baseball. As the starting quarterback, he led the Flashes to the playoffs. On the diamond, he posted a .386 batting average—highest in Warren County—along with 39 hits and 30 RBIs, helping St. Aloysius finish 17-14.

    VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—The Warren Central High School football team defeated Madison-Ridgeland Academy 28-14 in their spring game on Thursday. “It was a good win, but we made a few mistakes that we have to work on,” quarterback Nash Morgan said. “We’re going to keep working and fix those mistakes so we can better ourselves.”Morgan’s pass was picked off early in the game, but the Viking defense was able to get WC back on offense after a few plays.

(VDN) — The Mississippi Appellate Court vacated two charges of sexual battery and two life sentences for Vicksburg native Carl DeAnthony Smith due to lack of evidence earlier this week. Smith currently remains in prison on 10 counts of possession of child pornography. The courts also ordered that he be resentenced on those charges.

    ATLANTA, Ga. (Belhaven Athletics) — Nine members of the Belhaven Softball team have been named to the Collegiate Conference of the South All-Conference teams as announced by the league on Wednesday. The Blazers saw five players named to the All-CCS First Team including CCS Player of the Year Ellie Jones, three named to the All-CCS Second Team and one named on the All-CCS Sportsmanship team.
