    A Halifax-based navy ship helped in a significant seizure of illegal narcotics in the Carribean Sea. HMCS William Hall departed Halifax on May 14th to join Operation CARRIBE, a multinational mission to suppress drug trafficking in international waters. The Department of National Defence says the patrol vessel and an embarked U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment seized more than 1300 kilograms of cocaine on May 29th and 31st.

    Farmers are getting a boost to help grow the availability of local produce. The province and Horticulture Nova Scotia are once again offering the Season Extension Enhancement Program. Minister of Agriculture Greg Morrow has announced an additional $7 million will be added to the remaining $1.5 million left from the last round. The government says 64 farms previously received the support.

    Nova Scotia Health has issued a drug alert. The health authority says they have received an unverified report of crack suspected to contain fentanyl in the Halifax area. It is described as a white rock with bright pink specks. The health authority warns that street drugs are unpredictable: you don’t know what is in them and you don’t know how strong they are. According to the NSH website, fentanyl may be added to illicit drugs during their production without a customer’s knowledge.

    Streets have reopened in an area of Dartmouth after a natural gas leak. Crews responded to the 0-50 block of Primrose Street just before 10:30 a.m., Tuesday. Halifax Professional Fire Fighters say a line was ruptured causing nearby homes to be evacuated while crews isolated the area and clamped the line. This marks the second natural gas leak in HRM in four days. The first was in Halifax, Friday, that temporarily shut down the Victoria General.

    Crews are responding to a natural gas leak in Dartmouth. Halifax Regional Police say it’s in the 0-50 block of Primrose Street. Police ask the public to remain away from the area. Primrose Street between Robert Burns Drive and Pinecrest Drive is closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Jackson Road between Robert Burns Drive and Pinecrest Drive is also closed to vehicles and pedestrians. Use alternate routes to avoid delays. Police ask people to remain away from the area.
