Walker Schools are using support from the Toronto Blue Jays’ Jays Care Foundation to run programs for various age groups. Robert Moore was first designated a Jays Care affiliated school in 2024, receiving equipment and other support to run after-school programs. Outreach Youth Worker Rebecca Tolen says it is bringing the sport to young people where it is not easily accessible.

    The province is preparing to review policing costs in Ontario. Continued lobbying by communities policed by the Ontario Provincial Police has led to the Solicitor General Office committing to a review of the formula used to determine municipal costs. Policing costs for some northwestern Ontario communities have increased by as much as 50% in the last ten years.

    A boil water advisory has been issued for municipal water users in Blacks Harbour and Beaver Harbour. The advisory follows a water line break between the water source and the reservoir that happened earlier this week. All water being consumed should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute until further notice. That includes water used for brushing teeth, making ice, juice, coffee or tea, and washing vegetables that will not be cooked.

    More than 50 transitional housing units are coming to Saint John’s east side for those experiencing homelessness. Council voted Tuesday to designate two city-owned properties on Thorne Avenue and Egbert Street as “green zones.”They have also entered into an agreement with Fredericton-based 12 Neighbours to develop and operate the transitional housing communities. Marcel LeBrun, founder of 12 Neighbours, said their Neighbourly Homes model features courtyard-style housing that can be built quickly.
